OUR CULTIVATION
Pollination Architecture & Design
began from a clear vision:
to create an architecture firm that prioritizes impact, sustainability, and the betterment of the built environment. Our seed was planted by a deep-seated belief that design should serve people first.

Our founder, Zach Hansen's career began in 2019. Just two years later, in March 2021, he became the youngest licensed architect in the state of Iowa, a testament to his dedication and expertise in the field. In his early professional years he focused on projects that aligned with his values - non-profits, sustainable design, K-12 schools, and healthcare facilities. Following this, he expanded his expertise by serving as a preconstruction manager, gaining a broader understanding of the construction process and how early design decisions impact long-term project success.

Beyond his professional roles, Zach has been a committed leader in the Waterloo community. He has served on the board of Grow Cedar Valley, advocating for economic development and community-focused growth initiatives. In recognition of his leadership and contributions to the region, he was honored as part of The Courier’s 2023 class of 20 Under 40, highlighting his impact as a young professional shaping the future of architecture and community development in Iowa.

With Pollination Architecture & Design, Zach is bringing his vision full circle. The firm is built on three core values: stewardship, integrity, and adaptability. These values guide every project, ensuring that Pollination creates spaces that are not only functional and beautiful but also rooted in their context and community. The firm’s approach integrates community engagement, client centric design principles, and sustainable strategies that align with the AIA 2030 Commitment, making each project a testament to long-term responsibility.

Pollination Architecture & Design is more than an architecture firm, it is a movement towards thoughtful, responsible, and community-driven design. Wherever the firm leaves its mark, it does so with the goal of a lasting positive impact, ensuring that each space it touches contributes to a thriving and sustainable future.
